Todays Music. Tomorrows Sound.

Haunted Reverie…

By admin • Feb 27th, 2008 • Category: Music

Newworldaquarium is the moniker of the awesome Jochem Peteri, a man I don’t know much about besides his music, which sounds ridiculously good. There is something appropriate to me right now about getting lost in the music of an anonymous person across the globe (the Netherlands, to be exact,) I just love the mysterious quality of it. I gravitate towards the sounds with not much to guide me other than random comments found on the interweb, tiny curlicues of reaction, small symbols of a distant feeling. Being far from any house music scene or decent club, I rely on mine and my friends’ taste for new tunes and our errant will for throwing house parties to get our fix of collective feeling frenzy. The spontaneous quality of doing it yourself is appealing to me, it makes me feel somewhat in control of the chaos that dominates life, not giving my time out to a club, but instead making something that may succeed or may fail purely on the strength of the music and other chance elements. Anyway… here’s the track I wanted to post:

Newworldaquarium - Kirana’s Lament [NWAQ; 2008] (d/l)

Its a funky slow-burning deep groove that could go on forever. That’s pretty much how I feel about the entire album, pure aural pleasure, utterly beautiful–definitely worth getting your hands on.

And there’s one thing I wanted to address about the little argument goin on in regards to Shawn’s post: we aren’t music journalists. We’re guys using the internet to do something we enjoy, to do something semi-interesting. That’s all. I feel like people expect a certain something from anyone who claims to be a music journalist, and that’s fine and all, but we never claimed to be journalists. We’re pretty much gonna do whatever we feel like, its not like we’re gettin paid. Maybe we’ll get better, maybe we won’t. Oh, and I don’t care who posted what before whom, I honestly don’t spend any time at all reading blogs and trying to keep up, that’s just a headache. I don’t really know why I’m doin this blog thing, but it ain’t for respect.
