Ibiza 2008 (A personal Account)

I was actually asked to join the Random Circuits team a few weeks back, but I was forced to delay my start date due to an impending trip to the white isle of Ibiza.Only arriving back home on Sunday after spending two weeks on the island, not just clubbing but also exploring this special place as well as taking in some rays now and again.
This was my 6th visit, first making the trip in 2005 as a 17 year old progressive house fan. Back then the highlight was going to Pacha to see two blokes that go by the names Ali and Sharam, of course Deep Dish.
It had been a full year since my last visit and I was keen to see how the new crackdown on after hours clubbing had impacted the scene. I had never been a fan of those commercial dance ridden daytime events at space, a lingering relic from the 90s. The only real way it would effect me would be at DC10, which word on the street had it (thanks to various forums) was looking uncertain to re-open this or next year. This turned out to be a vicious lie, thankfully.
If I had to pick just one set of the many I witnessed as a personal highlight then without a shadow of a doubt it would be Luciano’s set at DC10 on Monday 18TH August. In the past few years Luciano has risen from being just another resident at a trendy club to being the superstar DJ who also just happens to be resident, much like Locodice’s rise to stardom before him.
The Latino-percussion phase that seems to be dominating the scene right now, was definitely dominating the sets of the DJ’s I saw. This could have just been down to the fact they were playing in Ibiza and tropical sounding music sounds better in a tropical environment right ? For me this was the biggest track of the trip. Afefe Iku - Mirror Dance.
