Anton Zap - “Pepper Exchange” EP [Quintessentials] (buy mp3) (buy Vinyl)

Our favourite Russian deep house head is back with a shiny new EP “Pepper Exchange” on a brand spanking new label! [Quintessentials]. Yes that’s right I’m talking about Anton Zap one of my favourite house producers of 2008.

Lovin U is a sweet warehouse esque deep house groover full of raw synth lines, vibrant hand claps and some early 90’s vocal samples. It reminds me a great deal of early Kerri Chandler: simple, stripped back, & raw. I’m loving the basic house feel that’s around at the moment with producers going back to basics and producing feel good, uncompromising, but very effective deep house music. Anton Zap leads the way when it comes to this style closely followed by Baaz.

Basement Groover is a definite nod to early NY house music & producers like Theo Parrish, Moodyman & Kerri Chandler. Quite jazzy and full of funk it rolls out with a smooth groove and off key riffs which work well next to the vocal sample. Again, its pure, back to its roots simple deep house music & I like it a lot.The EP as a whole could of quite easily been made by Chandler in the early 90’s it has that raw - simple groove quality which works so well.

Last but certainly not least is “Movin”. This is probably the most complexed record on the EP  packed full of tight yet minimal rolling percussion a deep groove and warm soul sampling pads. It teases you into thinking its going to break off into its own breakdown but never does it just stays steady but deep! The vocal sampling is typical for this style of house and moves well. The track is certainly movin as well as bumpin and jumpin at your local loft party. Essential house music for those looking for the simple soul filled - stripped back house feel.
