Hrdvsion - “Playing For Keeps” (The Mole’s MMD Remix) [Wagon Repair] (buy)
Trying to tag Nathan Jonson’s Aka Hrdvsion’s sound would be quite a tricky thing to do in fact i think it would be almost impossible, not that this is a bad thing, in fact far from it. I love it when producers mix it up a bit and do a bit of boundary breaking, i can firmly say that Hrdvsion follows no formula and definitely has his own sound & certainly does a bit of boundary breaking. His latest is the “Playing For Keeps” EP which has just dropped on the Wagon Repair label. It’s a solid enough EP and it comes with a brilliant remix from Colin De La Plant AKA the Mole, which we have here today.
Mr Mole is top of the pops at the moment, what with his excellent summer anthem “Baby You’re The One” which has been doing big things on many floors and surely must be a contender for record of the summer, if not the year. Also he is just about to release his debut artists album “As High As The Sky, which is also dropping on Wagon Repair. Not content with flooding the electronic music scene with his own fabulous work, he steps up and gives us a killer techno/ house remix of the latest Hrdvsion record.
The Moles remix of “Playing For Keeps” is a wierd but wonderful trip through house, techno and even a bit of disco & filtered house. By Keeping the main, gigantic synth line intact Colin goes for an all out techno feast that comes across a little housier as your journey reaches its peak. There’s something quite sinister about those pulsing synths that when played on a decent sound system, preferably a Funktion one, this track will do some damage. It swallows time up very quickly, before you know it the record has passed and you will be playing it again (at least that’s how it comes across as I’m reviewing it). Six and half minutes in the record takes a dramatic change in direction and breaks out into a full on funky, discofied, filtered house riff that will be sure to put a smile on your face, this continues accompanied by the slick timing of the synths and the tight percussion, eventually it does fade out only to give way for those evil pulsating synths that you first started with. And with that the process repeats itself. Killer remix and a proper floor filler.
