Mathias Kaden -”Lucidas EP” [Freude Am Tanzen] (buy)
I rate Mathias Kaden highly i have since i discovered his work with fellow producer Onur Ozer back in 2006, its safe to say that he is one of the best at what he does; making tribal minimal with a house slant thats been added for good measure. Check out the excellent (Myal EP) on Vakant for more proof. His latest (Lucidas EP) on the Freude Am Tanzen label is some of his best work to date in the tribal department he goes deeper and more percussive than ever, you can really feel the conga’s inside your head. It kicks off with ”Swahili” which is an appropriately named title for what your about to hear. It’s like a miniature carnival going on, complete with piano loops, chanting and endless conga’s. If this isn’t enough for you, play the next track “Lucidas” which is much more on a down beaten trail & more deeper, still with the drums and a healthy amount of percussion he weaves a horn in and out the drums and the atmospheric background to cause a nice tension in the room. Last up is “Saloee” he goes for the sticks and stones approach here and it works well as he builds it slowly, working up to a cool groove its quite delicate and very original it bubbles with nice undertone and great percussion very good EP.

I’ve been listening to ‘Lucidas’ nonstop. I don’t care much for ‘Swahili’ though
