Mojuba Special Edition #1 (V/A) (buy)

For the launch of their new and rather exclusive special edition catalogue (Mojuba Special Edition) Don William’s Mojuba imprint have kicked things of as they mean to carry on. The special edition comes strictly limited to 208 pressings (Vinyl only) and is only available through direct sale from Mojuba itself. However if your a vinyl junkie you will be pleased to know that the piece of precious plastic that your paying for comes hand numbered & with great artwork thus making your money go that little bit further than usual.

The special edition welcomes Roosevelt & Charles to the family and also sees familiar faces & Mojuba favorites Sven Weisemann & Oracy do their thing.

Roosevelt & Charles start proceedings with a quality atmospheric piece appropriately titled “Monastery” Starting deep with the pitter patter of atmospherics its not long before the calming pads gently glide in this is met by some smooth percussion and a tinkling cow bell. Warm synths woosh past and add to the melting pot of music the pads get more generous and the percussion goes at it alone. It all comes together with great ease. A good track to start with and a handy one to have close by.

Next up is a old hand to the Mojuba label Sven Weisemann. Sven has had no less than 8 singles through Mojuba be that solo EP’s or shared I think its fair to say that Weisemann is good at what he does. If your familiar with Sven’s work and the label as a whole you should take to “Feel” like a duck to water. The thing that puts Mojuba ahead of the rest is the quality they don’t rush releases and every single EP has had a great deal of time and care put in and the attention to detail is second to none which for me “Feel” shows off very well. It’s a gorgeously deep yet loose & quite simple rhythmic track. Woody pads, loose drums & minimal tick tock percussion glide by like without a care in the world. It’s so calming very warm and extremely enjoyable I only wished it lasted longer than 4:30. Simplicity is most definitely the key here.

Last up is one of my favorite producers from the Mojuba roster Oracy. “Awakening” is probably the most dance floor friendly piece on the EP. Working around tight percussion, rhythmic tapping and some deep generous pads Oracy goes for the most complexed track on the record. The pads are met by some slick programmed synths which breaks down the track just nicely. Everything works together just fine this giving the track some heat & making it perfect for the floor. A good solid EP & everything that you would expect from Mojuba.
