Niggeman & Poppcke - “L’ Aurora” [Moonpool] (buy)

Two relatively new names, Alex Niggemann and Marc Poppcke, one brand spanking new sub label, [Moonpool] and three solid house tracks.

Walter Ercolino and Daniela Stickroth the two faces behind the German based label’s [Meerestief] and [Meerestief ltd] have taken things a step further with their third label [Moonpool Records]. Moonpool has been devised as a special sub label which will release house music that you wouldn’t necessarily expect to find on Meerestief.

Niggemann & Poppcke, what do i know about these two, well nothing i’ve never heard of them. Both quite new faces but by the sounds of this EP both have very promising careers and have a lot more to give. Moonpool have really pushed the boat out with their first release by drafting in Agnès, who is on  fabulous form at the moment with releases on Slowhouse, Deepvibes (as Ray Valioso) and also Perspectiv to name but a few. Completing what is already a solid EP is the UK’s own techno legend and owner of the long standing [Ferox label], Russ Gabriel. All this information alone had me salivating, and i hadn’t, yet even heard the music!

Niggemann & Poppcke’s original version of L’Aurora is as dramatic and beautifully produced as the seductive title suggests it is. “Aurora” meaning The rising light of the morning; the dawn of day; or the beginning. Alex & Mark’s original is a loose but dramatic deep house number. They go about things with loose percussion, dramatic deep synths and some lovely warm- through pads. It’s quite minimal and loose but has an awful lot of power and depth, slow building the boys climax with a wonderful organic and very dramatic violin breakdown.

Next up to the table is Russ Gabriel & his own personal take on things. “Russ Gabriel’s old School Remix” is a real quality re rub he puts his own stamp on things by taking the Detroit route and adding a bit of his own unique deep techy old skool techno style to the mix. Much more compact this is a very solid remix. Spacey synths fizz by these are accompanied by some vibrant warm percussion, not loose like the original this is a solid deep house remix with hints of classic techno, & in places tech house. Those synths play a big part, almost trance like & will be sure to set the dance floor grooving & when brought together with the slick timing of the percussion you get a good full bodied feel and one that should never really age.

Completing this excellent package is Agnès and what a completion it is. By far my favourite remix on the EP Agnes’s “Chicago take” is one long groove, quite basic but works wonderfully well. This talented Swiss producer basically strips the track down & add’s a repetitive female vocal which may i add is very early 90’s & very fitting for the current 2008 deep house style. Still using the original strings these are met with some deep as you like pads, classy synths and a remix that not only sounds fantastic but a remix that people will be playing in many years to come. Timeless in my eyes. I can’t find fault with both the remixes or the original. Such a solid start from Moonpool this is one label to keep a very close eye on.
