October - “Raw” (Agnes & Ripperton’s Twisted Reshape) [Caravan] (buy)
I have to be honest i know very little about Julian Smith Aka DJ October: UK based DJ/ producer & founder of Caravan Recordings. The last few months or so I have been hearing his name mentioned all the time and with 3 EP’s in circulation and another one upcoming I wanted to know more about October’s music & sound in general. So what better way to start with his latest release the appropriately titled “Raw” EP which comes with a good joint remix from RC’s favorite Swiss house heads Agnes & Ripperton.
Agnes & Ripperton’s “Twisted Reshape” does exactly what it says on the tin its a 12 min meandering journey through deep spacey synths, clicky riffs and raw sounding melodic hooks. On first listen it comes across quite simple and pure but when you get into it you find a whole heap of sound just waiting to jump out at you. Calming melodies and the deepest space like synths work simultaneously with the cold clicky rhythms, its a fantastic sculpture of sound which comes together quite beautifully. I get the sense of water when listening to the reshape & it certainly has a Swiss feel which the two talented producers leave their mark on. It’s calming in a relaxing way I could quite easily put this on to chill out to at the same time it would be great warm up material. If I’m totally honest after listening to the remix which coincidentally is the title track I don’t find the original nowhere near as interesting. It’s worth every penny though if just for the remix. October & Caravan Recordings are definitely ones to keep a close eye on.

I think the original is much deeper and better than the remix and has more detail and texture than most records out there! still love the remix though - more for the floor!;-)
