Omega Midi - “Omega Midi” (Ray Valioso’s Esta Afuera Dub) [Sthlmaudio Recordings] (buy)

I’d never heard of Omega Midi who has recently put out his first EP on Agnes’s deep Swiss house imprint [Sthlmaudio]. Agnes’s label is no stranger to putting out music from then unknown producers & first time artists who release music via this homegrown Swiss label take Baaz & Lazar as two good examples both of which (more Baaz) have come up trumps since releases dropped. Like with unknown producer before him Lazar this is Midi’s first output to date which comes complete with a fine remix from Ray Valioso aka Agnes.

Omega Midi’s self titled debut EP is everything we have come to expect from the label its released on. The original is a sweet stripped back funky little groover, full of rhythm, bounce & its nice and deep. Its not as raw as say tracks from Baaz but it still packs a powerful punch. Cool airy synths and sweet keys work next to a underpinned jazzy synth and some typically housey female vocal snippets.

Ray Valioso’s Esta Afuera Dub (try requesting that at the booth after sinking a few stella’s) is a cool extended rework, not your typical Agnes remix but just as good either way. It’s more stripped back with bouncy pads and peppered vocals, still with the same structure as the original its just more slow I’d say 120 bpm. It’s definitely got the funk and those synths are just a little bit more lighter than the originals. A nice EP. Whilst were on the subject of Ray Valioso keep a look out for his new EP (Particles EP) which has just dropped on [Real Soon].

  1. i love this remix so much! probably one of my most favorite of 2008 so far. the vocals are just amazing!

  2. agnes is looking to be the producer of the year for me

  3. this is nice, but really am disappointed with the new Ray Valioso EP, been 2 years since Einladung EP which is one of my all time favourite EP’s and i just find the new one really really bland in comparison…

  4. Get the strings? from the Einladung EP is a proper dance floor weapon. I can’t really comment on the Particles EP as I’ve only listened to clips via Hard Wax, however what I’ve heard I’m liking, nicely chilled ,basic summer grooves. I like it pure, stripped back and uncomplicated though. I see what you mean by a change in direction from his Einladung EP that was more late night. I’m thinking “Particles” is following on in sound from his appearance on [Deep Vibes] with “You’ll Never Be Mine” from earlier this year.

  5. yeah “get the strings” is a great track but the whole EP is fantastic! “rhodes island” a really nice deephouse track and “keep it” is right on the money aswell, just find the new EP more downbeat, i dont like it as much. thought the ray valioso alias would stick to the same sort of style…

  6. I was expecting the Valioso EP to be more of the “You’ll Never Be Mine” style.

That DJ Vadim remix is dead on, wish he’d release that.

His remix of Dyed Soundorom’s new one for Tsuba is yet another deep house bomb >>>

Think he’s playing in Manchester soon??? @ Back2Front

  7. Yeah I seen that he’s playing Manc I think I’ll be making the trip …
