RC Playlist -03- Saying Hello To Summer

By Joe • May 1st, 2008 • Category: Music, Playlists

Summer is without doubt my favourite season of the year, everyone seems to be in such a better mood when the sun is shining, everybody taking full advantage of that precious bit of summer. It’s the only way to go about things living in the UK as it rains on average from 500 mm 20 (Inches) to 5,000 mm (200 Inches) so its quite likely your going to see more rain than you are sun when living in the UK & living here myself i can say that these figures stand up, but should probably be changed to add more rainfall. Anyway enough about rain. Summer is the best time to get out into the garden get the BBQ going invite friends round & have a good ol get together but no gathering is complete without music, with that said I thought I would share 5 of my tried & tested outdoor summer tracks that work well when holding a garden party.

Alton Miller - “Clouds Are Gone” (Henrik Schwarz Remix) [Deeper Soul, 2005] (buy)

This is a really good track to drop mid afternoon as the sun is beating down on your face. Everyone is milling around chatting with a cold beer in hand as you do at the beginning of a party then suddenly the haunting vocals from Anton Miller float through the speakers out on to the garden & everyone takes notice. This is when the party really gets going & it never fails! Henrik Schwarz’s remix is one of his best to date, very dramatic it really gets you going as he builds it up over 12 minutes adding a sublime piano on top of the pure vocals from Miller. This will be sure to set your party off in style no matter when you drop it. If you don’t dance or at least shuffle your feet to this then I’m sorry, but i can’t help you.

Innersphere AKA Shinedoe - ”Phunk” [Intacto, 2005] (buy)

This is still one of my biggest speaker freakers to date & one you recognise instantly. If your looking for a party starter or something to make your friends jump around like lunatics, play them this (the original version) i would save the Villalobos remix for later on in the night. There’s something about this record that shouts out PARTY! no matter who you are, where you are or what your doing when this comes on it will make you dance. Shinedoe created the ultimate carnival atmosphere with “Phunk” & it hasn’t been beaten yet. Get jumping on them speaker stacks boys & Girls.

DJ Sneak - “Deephousing” [Jinnx Records, 1995] (buy)

I will drop this when people have nearly finished there food, a sort of bring the party back to full peak track, but a subtle one at that. It wont jump up and bite you on your arse, it will take you slowly, back into party mode and get you ready for the rest of day.

Range Of Motion - “What U Mean To Me” (Wink Remix) [Ovum,2002] (buy)

I play this as the sun has moved round and is getting ready to to slowly go down. This is a good one to drop for the people just arriving that will stay right through till the night, the sexy vocals from Tanja Dixon go down well, as does the shuffled percussion from the Wink mix. Combine them together and add a little of Josh Wink’s special acid like touch and you have yourself a certified outdoor anthem.

Oracy - “Another Family Day” [Mojuba, 2006] (buy)

Another Family Day by Oracy is without doubt one of my most played records in the summer whilst doing it alfresco. The way it builds is quite something & when heard out on a decent sound system, when it’s out in the open air on a lovely summers day it makes so much more sense. The preaching & the quality production from Oracy combine very well indeed, this will have your party in full swing everyone dancing, smiles on faces enjoying their own family day.
