RC Playlist -04- Saying Hello To Summer pt2
By Joe • May 23rd, 2008 • Category: Featured Story, Music, Playlists
So in the penultimate playlist of the Saying Hello To Summer compilation i continue sharing some of my favourite tried and tested summer jams. Hopefully it will introduce some to music they might have missed, or maybe jog a few memories of those who are keen music heads. Either way i think you will agree this is quality music that needs to be heard.
Toob - “Union Street” (Kenny Hawkes Remix) [Groovetech Records] [2003] (buy)
This is such a great record to drop it has a real housey vibe to it and will never fail. Kenny Hawkes does the business on the remix turning it into a summer jam you cant afford to be without. It has a real light airy vibe to it with the dramatic percussion and wonderful synth work. This is one record that rarely leaves my box in the summer.
St Germain - “Alabama Blues” (1965 Remix) [F Communications] [1995] (buy) When you talk about St Germain to any self respecting house and techno fan nine times out of ten the first track they will reply with is ”Rose Rouge”. This is all well and good but many fail to realise that this was released in 2000 & Ludovic Navarre Aka St Germain had been making cracking records for many years before. One of his best is his 1995 release of “Alabama Blues” which was a benchmark release back in the day & ended up crossing over into nearly every genre possible. Mainly known for the Todd Edwards garage remix which unfortunately over shadowed a lot of the other remixes. Take the “1965″ remix as an example this is a proper house record without the bullshit & is such a joy to play in the summer. And also a real good one to start with. When those vocals come through the speakers the party people will quickly flock to the area of dance & from then on you have them where you want.
Danilo Vigorito -”Evolution Two” [Frozen Musik] [2003] (buy) Danilo Vigoriti is a long serving house and techno producer from Italy. This is one of my favourites by him it’s actually a two sided EP so if you like “Evolution Two” i suggest you look up number one. This will give your summer shindig a real kick, if they don’t dance to this their not going to dance to anything. It has a real energy and a quality rolling house vibe. Good to drop peak time.
Shed - “Well Done My Son” (033472-edit) [Soloaction Records] [2006] (buy) If your only going to look up or even buy one record from this playlist make sure it’s this. The anonymous Shed has produced a fantastic timeless summer house record. This has everything i love about summer all rolled into one record and it’s all been done by an expert craftsman. No words. Just listen.
Mr. G - “Balance” [Careless] [2007] (buy) Mr.G is someone who consistently produces great records, they may not come that often but when they do you know to go out and buy them. Take his “Atmosphere” EP, which was released last summer. This contained a summer smash hit that unfortunately didn’t get the recognition it deserved. ”Balance” is such a good solid house track and one that screams play me in the midday sun.
