Runaway - “Brooklyn Club Jam” [Rekids] (buy)

HUGE TUNE ALERT! I hadn’t heard of Runaway AKA Jacques Renault & Marcos Cabral before i listened to “Brooklyn Club Jam” their latest release which is falling on not one but two well known labels this summer and if that wasn’t enough it also comes backed up with a slew of remixes from the likes of L.S.B. AKA Pete Herbert & Georgina Fernandez, electronica producer Brennan Green, Toby Tobias, house head Tedd Patterson, and Âme. First up to the table is [Rekids] here we have the fantastic original & the equally as good remix from L.S.B. Then later on this summer the high end New York Death From Above label or [DFA] as its widely known as will release the remaining remixes from the producers mentioned above. So on with the music…

Brooklyn Club Jam takes everything i like about music and melts it into one fantastic piece of music. Taking in an old skool anthemic piano riff, tight bass & even tighter percussion. It’s full bodied and full of funk it builds seamlessly and has an almighty piano drop. Part disco part house part acid… It’s like taking a trip back in time to when piano’s dominated the house music scene, very warehouse think Asha JJ - Tribute, T - Coy - Carino, Jimi Polo - Better Days etc. Half way through you even get a taste of acid house and a “high high” sample which sounds like its been sampled from a 90’s speed garage record! Everything works so well the arrangement is excellent and how it comes together is great i couldn’t put a label as to what genre it falls on & i wouldn’t want to but this is a good thing is it not!?

On the flip is the L.S.B. Remix this is more stripped back and not as chunky as the original. Possibly one for later on in the night or even to finish on in fact this would make a fantastic set closer. It seems more reserved than the original perhaps i should have listened to them the other way round, eitherway their both very good. The pair that is L.S.B keep the main piano riff intact and go for a stripped back jazzy disco remix. Which works well its more house orientated than the original thus making the package very appealing indeed. It doesn’t sound as “old skool” as the original but this ain’t a bad thing either.

For me (so far) its all about the original but we still have many remixes to come which is exciting. Whilst we wait for the remixes to drop i advise you to put the original on your to buy list as i guarantee you wont be disappointed.
