Slowhouse “Three” [Slowhouse Recordings] (buy)
I would say that this has been my most anticipated record so far this year, after the fabulous Slowhouse Two which we covered earlier this year i didn’t think Slowhouse could get any better, but how wrong was i.Slowhouse Three tops number Two and leaves number One standing in the shadows it’s as if each release Mr Slowhouse gets better and better, I say Mr as I’m 99.9% sure i know who is behind the mysterious Slowhouse guise. Quite a while back now i came across a Peter Grummich track-listing that he had left on some body’s myspace from a mix that he had done, for the life of me i cant remember which myspace it was i think it was just a random one that i was browsing at the time, anyway the track-listing said Agnes - Slowhouse Two, everything fell into place as on the record sleeves it says it comes from Switzerland & it’s definitely his style of house, so yeah I’m happy to say it’s Agnes, of course if anyone reading knows different please leave a comment.
So on with the music and what fantastic music it is four solid deep house cuts that have a distinct early Detroit feel. As their all untitled i’ll just refer to them as 1,2 and so on. Number one is a deep as you like cut for the real house heads, i mean it’s so stripped back yet warm at the same time and it has a real underground feel to it. Warm pads take hold of you these are accompanied by some slick timed organ like synths, it just grooves and will definitely make you move this is the creme de la creme of uncompromising deep house music.
Number Two is much more on a Detroit tip and will probably be the track that gets most plays on the floor. This could of quite easily been made back in the day never mind 2008 just how does he get those sounds!. Going much deeper, almost dubby in fact this is house music at it’s best. A bouncy bass and some floating synths set the tone, in comes the vocal which is in that classic early house style sort of muffled male vocals but still managing to get it across deep. The track is a pure joy to listen to, and just when you think it cant get any better the synths turn more complex and really make the record stand out that dubby bass from the pads goes into overtime and really lights the track up. Pure quality!
Three is more restrained and much more calm, still deep as hell mind you but compared to Two this is much more laid back. Still warm and has that old skool feel deep keys and synths work side by side perfectly. In comes the warm pads that will light up a room in an instant, the vocal snippet’s are hypnotic and quite edgy very cool and classy house.
Number Four finishes what is possibly the best EP this year, at least in my eyes and ears it is. This is one of the best house tracks I’ve heard in a very long time complex-ed vocals and deep pulsating pads take you to that other place this is followed up by some deep but airy synths that glide along with the groove graciously.In comes the piano riff that has an almost layered effect the vocal snippets become more prominent and the track really takes off. Still building this record has such a lot more to give the synths fizz and the pads become really engaging the vocal has that deep late night vibe going on this is when the track peaks & just explodes it to an all out deep house feast.
For me to choose a favourite out of these four exceptionally good house tracks would be impossible, quite frankly they are all fantastic pieces of music and ones that are essential to any real house heads. What we have here, in my eyes could quite possibly be the best house release of 2008.

i’m pretty certain he’s behind three too… but not two.. it sound totally different than the other ones plus.. it says Love Letters From A Drumpoet In Exile on the cover.. Quarion in Berlin maybe?
thanks for that link tho! :)
Yeah i reckon he could be behind Two if so this is Quarion’s best work to date i mean compared to his last Ep the “workout” which i thought was really weak, this is like 100x better. Who ever it is it’s fantastic house music.
Three is still my favourite though.
i like all 3 slowhouses.. and agree about quarion.. gone a bit off lately :)
Track 4 is the one for me! Great detective work guys
1 = a
2 = q
3 = a
“Slowhouse” clears things up nicely. Looking forward to number 4 i wonder who it will be Baaz maybe, Sascha Dive? or perhaps their keeping it strictly Swiss!?
Really liking this - thanks for the heads up Joe. I can’t get past a1and its pure inescapable groooove!
