Tama Sumo & Prosumer - Play Up / Brothers, Sisters. [Ostgut Ton] (buy)
I had only ever heard of the Berghain / Panorama bar resident Tama Sumo in reviews through various dance music magazines, well up until now that is. With a long time spent on the Berlin underground club scene, including a residency at the famous Tresor club in Berlin, Tama’s DJ sets are the talk of the town. She takes the listener on a voyage through deep old school house, jacking Chicago house, melodic grooves & lots of dry sub bass, all of which usually happens in a disused power station on the outskirts of Berlin at silly o clock. Fellow resident & fantastic vocal talent Prosumer has teamed up with her on this double sided EP for the Berghain label, this is where the marriage is made, & it’s a marriage made in heaven. (At least on the dance floor that is). The two multi talented producers (both of which use their own vocals), combine their vast knowledge of dance music, and add their own special touch on two of the better records you likely to hear.
“Play Up” is a sexy slow ridden house track that needles it’s way into your head. The two create quite a atmosphere with a slick stripped back house groove that will be sure to keep you grooving long into the night. The bass is a sterdy concoction of warm synth lines, deep bass & some squelchy over lapping layered grooves. Hypnotic & very fitting for the Ostgut Ton label this is a really solid track. Tama’s vocals are present throughout, well i say vocals there mainly snippets of her commanding the dancer to do various things, & have been put there to try to wiggle their way into your mind whilst your on the floor.
Brothers, Sisters is a nod to the old school deep Chicago house vibe, and a continuation from where prosumer is at the moment ie on the same vibes as the excellent ”Serenity” album from earlier this year where he collaborated with Murat Tepeli. It’s all about the deep bouncy groove & the pairs excellent vocals, which they add to the piece & in turn make the piece stand out from the rest. The jacking house factor is present here, along with some hypnotic vocal snippets from both Prosumer & Tama this will be the track that will be a big hit in the clubs. Four minutes in it changes shape this is where the pair leave the jacking grooves of Chicago behind & close on some fine New York flavours.
A very good, solid EP from these two multi talented producers. I hope to hear more from both of them asap.
