Pär Grindvik - Score for direction

By Joel • May 19th, 2008 • Category: Music, Single/EP Reviews

It’s extremely hard to catch all the good releases being poured out by all the various electronic music producers around the globe. New labels and artists are popping up all the time, always new stuff to discover. Grindvik’s Score For Direction was released in february this year and I haven’t heard it until now. The label is Stockholm LTD. On the record there are two songs; Ensemble and Akustik. Both extending beyond the 8 minute mark. Pär really seems to have a thing for long, well developed, no rush compositions. I can’t complain at all. Sometimes when artists create long tracks the result almost feels dragged out for nothing, and the track might even lose focus or become boring. Not the fact with Mr Grindvik, no sir. He keeps us interested and busy for the massive duration of his creations. Ensemble is a bit too low-key and uniform - almost flat, for my tastes though. Akustik on the other hand turns things around and out oozes a big audio monster weezing and huffing, putting images of some crazy Miyazaki creation in my head. Bell-like sounds complement the fierce percussion and the non-stop synthetic monster roars. Always a pleasure hearing interesting techno from fellow Swedes.
